I like this post. The issue that I have with many of these children education books, is that the wanting result is not exactly the same for everybody. I do not know the stats, but I am pretty sure the teenagers issues are very similar for both nations in this case US and France. It depends where. urban or rural area etc. also background. to really really compare. there have to be stats; e.g. income, level of parents education, etc.. I Think there is lots to learn from each other.

Thanks for this Krista. Here it seems that schools even get rid of recess... I really don't get it. I am not even sure those decisions are justified with any form of research either...

The research in this area is growing as well. The Kinderwald (Forest Kindergarten) programs - most common in countries like Finland and Denmark - where Kindergarten children spend time moving outdoors, participating in activities that support the neural brain development necessary to be ready to learn - show a highler level of school success later.

Also, John Ratey discusses research connecting physical activity to school success in his book, SPARK.

I totally agree with you! I think it is outrageous that those classes are cancelled. I find that many places here, even if they do have PE, don't have enough of it. When I was at school, we had 3 hours a week until 9th grade and then 2 hours for the last 3 years of high school. It doesn't seem like much but in France, most kids will walk a lot more so just that is a bit of exercise.
As a teacher, I have always noticed that the kids who are involved in sports in or out of schools are the ones who score best results academically... It goes to show.
